Adrián Cazares

Dr. Adrián Cazares is a Staff Scientist at the Wellcome Sanger Institute in the UK, where he studies bacterial mobile evolution. He did his MSc and PhD in Molecular Biology at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute in Mexico, before becoming a Research Fellow at the Institute of Global Health from the University of Liverpool in the UK. He then moved to the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) in Cambridge on an ESPOD Fellowship funded by EMBL and the Wellcome Trust. His research focuses on understanding how Horizontal Gene Transfer and Mobile Genetic Elements shape the evolution of bacterial genomes and fast-track the emergence and spread of bacterial pathogens and antimicrobial resistance.
