I obtained my PhD in Genetics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and completed postdoctoral training at Stanford University. After a short period as a group leader at the Weizmann Institute, I joined Imperial College as a Research Assistant. I was appointed Lecturer in the Department of Life Sciences at Imperial College in 1998, promoted to Reader in 2000, and to Full Professor in 2002. I am currently Professor of Molecular Pathogenesis at Imperial College London. My research focuses on the infection biology of gut and lung bacterial pathogens, infection prevention, mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance, and the spread of antimicrobial resistance genes through conjugation, with particular emphasis on donor–recipient interactions.
