Igor Konieczny received his Ph.D. (1994) and habilitation (2000) at the University of Gdansk. Full Professor since 2004. He carried out postdoctoral training in prof. Donald Helinski laboratory at the University of California, San Diego. From 1998 a member, and (2010-2012) a secretary of the International Society for Plasmid Biology. Member of COST committee (2008-2015). Dean of the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Gdansk and the Medical University of Gdansk (2012-2020) and Director of Doctoral School since 2020. Member of the Polish Council for Scientific Excellence since 2022. Author of more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, including publications in PNAS, EMBO J, NAR. His research interests focus on the molecular mechanisms of DNA replication in broad-host-range plasmids and on the regulation of DNA replication in bacteria. He was awarded by EMBO, HHMI and FNP.
