Leonor Garcia-Bayona

Dr. Leonor García-Bayona is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Stanford. Leonor double-majored in Chemical Engineering and Microbiology at the University of the Andes in Colombia. She did her Ph.D. in Microbiology at MIT, under the supervision of Dr. Michael Laub, describing a new interbacterial antagonism system. As a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Dr. Laurie Comstock, first at Harvard and later at the University of Chicago, Leonor trained in intestinal anaerobe microbiology, advanced microscopy and microbiome computational analyses. The García-Bayona lab studies the role of mobile genetic elements in the community interactions of the human intestinal microbiota, and evaluates how this knowledge could be harnessed for targeted therapeutic interventions.
