Guido Werner

Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Guido Werner is Deputy Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Head of the Division for Nosocomial Pathogens and Antibiotic Resistance at the Robert Koch Institute, leading the National Reference Centre for Staphylococci and Enterococci. He holds a PhD in Biology (Humboldt University, Berlin) and a Diploma in Biochemistry/Biotechnology (Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg) and has been Professor (APL) of Medical Microbiology at Georg-August University Göttingen since 2016. His research focuses on antimicrobial resistance and healthcare-associated pathogens, including emerging multidrug-resistant strains and strategies for infection prevention and control. He serves on several scientific boards and has been National Focal Point for Microbiology at ECDC since 2012. He has published over 250 peer-reviewed papers and serves as editor for leading journals.
